Black & White & In Color
In July 2018 I bought a mirrorless digital SLR. I had abandoned my very heavy digital Nikon equipment for my iPhone a few years back. I pushed iPhone photography as much as possible with the addition of many cloud based apps and my longtime "darkroom", Photoshop. However, on a new botanical illustration assignment I started missing the greater versatility of interchangeable lenses so I decided to invest in a very lightweight mirrorless camera. I grew up a photographer's daughter helping my dad in his NYC portrait studio's darkroom doing a lot of negative retouching and playing around after hours with him hand- tinting B&W photographs for the simple joy of it, an activity of another era even then. One of the settings on the new camera reminded me of images we used to play with. This started me off on a bit of retro-photo nostalgia play.
